I do not understand, do students have to sign up to SATs by themselves? I thought,it kind of part of school requirements.

Yes, each student has to sign up for SAT individually, depending on each student’s schedule. Some of them take SAT only once, others can take it 2 times or more, Mostly 2 or 3 times. Some students should take SAT2 (subject tests), if they want to apply the colleges that need SAT2 scores as a requirement.
